5 Highlights Of Visiting West Canada’s Canadian Rocky Mountains

If you’re visiting West Canada, one place you don’t want to miss is the famous Rocky Mountains – a vista of mountains, glaciers, waterfalls and grasslands (just to name a few of the sights).

The Canadian Rocky Mountains cover a vast area, around 180,000 square kilometres to be exact, and there is something exciting to see at every turn. However, it would be impossible to see everything at once. If you’re travelling to West Canada, you can expect to set your sights on just a small portion of this amazing UNESCO World Heritage-listed park. Here are some of the highlights:

Bow Glacier: is an outflow glacier that connects to the Wapta Icefield and is well worth the visit. The glacier is popular for hiking, with beautiful bridges to cross and breathtaking vistas to explore.

Mount Robson: is the highest point in the Canadian Rockies standing at 3,954 metres high. It is a popular spot for campers and is surrounded by old forests, stunning waterfalls and beautiful wildflowers. Great for hiking, climbing – and enjoying the views.

Banff National Park: the oldest national park in Canada, Banff was established in the late 1800s and has over 3 million visitors every year. The scenery is some of the best in the country, with snow-capped mountains, glaciers, flowers and mountain scenery.

Jasper: home to a number of hiking and walking trails, skytram, water sports and rafting – not to mention the wildlife, this is an adventure playground that is as fun as it is beautiful.

Lake Louise: both a town and a lake, Lake Louise is actually glacier-fed, which means it looks amazing year-round (though will also be icy cold). In the colder months, the lake will actually freeze over and you can enjoy some winter adventures; while summer provides a fantastic backdrop for hiking and kayaking.
