Fantastic Vacation and Luxury Tour Packages in Laos

From colonial architecture and Buddhist temples to the peaceful banks of the Mekong River; the charming towns to the waterfalls and mountains; the remote hill tribes to the cultural cities; kayaking in the Vang Vieng caves to the mysterious Plain of Jars; shopping at the markets to cruises along the rivers; Laos is a country that has an astounding history and some of the best landscapes in the world. As the country’s slogan states, it is “simply beautiful” and people are drawn to the laid-back lifestyle Laos offers.

Laos is a relatively new country when it comes to tourism, with travellers only being allowed there since the mid-1990s. It remains untouched by the demands of modern day living and the people pride themselves on keeping their heritage alive. It is home 49 ethnic groups or tribes and the country is traditionally Buddhist.

Visiting Laos is like taking a trip back in time.

Highlight tourist destinations include the city of Vientiane; Vang Vieng which is surrounded by limestone caves, including the famous caves at Tham Jang which was used as a bunker in defence against marauding Chinese Ho in the early 19th century; and Tham Phu Kham containing a bronze reclining Buddha and a stunning blue lagoon within the cave. The city of Luang Prabang is always popular with its ideal location nestled between the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers; and the Mekong River itself is a highlight among many travellers – the local villages, Pak Ou caves and the scenery. There are also plenty of opportunities for adventure sports and shopping at local markets.

In Laos you will discover a variety of accommodation options, from camping and backpacker style hostels, to mountain resorts and boutique hotels.

The best time to visit is between November and April when temperatures are lower and the air is less humid. Between March and May is the dry season, so the rivers will not allow for much exploration; while November and December are the cooler months, where the evenings can get quite cold – particularly if you’re planning on heading to the mountains. Rainy season is between May and October so be sure to pack a raincoat and waterproof boots.

Flights to Vientiane in Laos are easy to find, with rather cheap flights from Australia travelling via Bangkok. You will be required to have a visa when visiting the country.
