A striking country, filled with an intriguing history, interesting culture and stunning scenery. The country is known for its striking landscapes - the beautiful beaches and river systems, bustling cities and glorious mountains and paddy fields - and you will find yourself immersed in a haven of unique and astounding experiences.
Whether you plan to visit the cities or travel the country at leisure exploring the lesser known paths, you’ll find an abundance of beauty, a history that will astound you, and of course, the friendly smiles from the locals.
The majority of visitors head to Ho Chi Minh City, where you’ll have a fantastic introduction to the lifestyles of the Vietnamese. From the Saigon River to the age-old traditions, modern office buildings and the historical sites, Ho Chi Minh is an alluring city with much to offer. Ho Chi Minh also offers the perfect base for exploring some of the highlights of the country further. The other favoured city among travellers is Hanoi, which is filled with temples, pagodas, lakes and monuments and is close to Vietnam’s premier natural attraction, the beautiful Ha Long Bay.
If looking for an experience that is a little different, you won’t want to miss the chants of the Cao Dai sect at the Cao Dai Temple at Tay Ninh; exploring the former colonial hill station of Dalat with its beautiful lakes and alpine scenery; hiking along some of the long distance trails across the country; experiencing the underground life of the Viet Cong-era soldiers at the Cu Chi Tunnels; taking a journey along the Mekong Delta; and getting up close and personal with the locals at the Sapa hill tribe’s remote villages.
In Vietnam you will find an abundance of accommodation options, from budget backpacker hostels which start at extremely low prices for shared accommodation, to top class hotels in the larger cities.
The best time of year for you to visit Vietnam depends on where you want to go. The country is dominated by the south or southwesterly monsoon between May and September; while the northeasterly monsoon bits between October and April. Along the central coast the wet season starts in November, and between February and May are generally the most popular months to visit. While in north you’ll find the weather warm and sunny from October to December, with the hottest months between May and August.
Getting to Vietnam is easy, with regular flights to the three main cities Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Da Nang. There are direct flights, or you can choose a cheaper option and travel via other South East Asia destinations, such as Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur.
