Thailand is by far one of the most visited tourist destinations in Asia and it’s easy to see why. The beautiful scenery – from the mountains to the beaches, the villages to the cities; the friendly locals; the food; and the rich culture and history; all of these factors – and more - make Thailand a fantastic place to visit.
Thailand has more than 1500 kilometres of coastline where you’ll be able to explore the white beaches, bays and coves; or if you love shopping, there are markets in just about every town or village, and shopping malls in the cities. If you just want to relax, Thailand is also ideal with its resorts and spas, not to mention there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy a famous Thai massage.
Bangkok is a city filled with interesting monuments, fantastic markets, great dining opportunities and much more. While you’re in Bangkok, you won’t want to miss visiting the City Pillar Shrine to make a wish to live longer and rid yourself of life’s misfortunes; Wat Pho - the Temple of the Reclining Buddha built in the 16th century; and the Grand Palace which was the former residence of the kings.
Outside the city, and you have much to explore. To the north you’ll find the historic city of Chiang Mai and plenty of trekking opportunities. Onto the central plains and you can explore the elegant ruins of places like Ayutthaya and Sukhothai, the former capitals, and the River Kwai. Heading south and you find the beaches, the beautiful and popular Ko Samui and Ko Pha Ngan, and the islands of the Andaman coast, including Phuket.
Phuket is one of Thailand’s most popular destinations and is filled with amazing scenery- white sandy beaches, crystal blue waters, rolling green mountains and sweet villages. There is also an abundance of nightlife, restaurants, shopping and adventure activities available. The locals are friendly and Phuket offers the perfect opportunity to relax.
In Thailand you will find all kinds of accommodation, from affordable options for those on a tight budget, to affordable hotels and top class resorts.
If you’re thinking of visiting Thailand, you can travel at any time of year. The weather is warm all year round, with three seasons – the wet season between May and October which is caused by southwest monsoon, the cold season between November and February, and the hot season between March and May – where temperatures often reach 35°C in Bangkok.
Getting to Thailand is easy, with regular flights from most Australian capital cities taking you to both Bangkok and Phuket.
