Cambodia is a beautiful country that offers pristine landscapes, many of which are barely discovered, an intriguing history that dates back many thousands of years, interesting customs and a fascinating culture.
From the renowned temples of Angkor – which date back to the rule of one of Asia’s most magnificent early civilizations, the Khmer empire of Angkor; to the old world charm of the country’s cities and sleepy villages. From the dense jungles and wild Cardamom Mountains; to the floating villages and the beautiful beaches and islands of Sihanoukville on the Gulf of Thailand - Cambodia has much to offer all kinds of traveller; young and old, singles and families.
While you’re in Cambodia, you won’t want to miss exploring the Temples of Angkor where you’ll find dozens of monuments across the countryside, taking a journey along the Mekong Discovery Trail into the heart of the Mekong, the diverse surroundings of the Ratanakiri province, the ancient Prasat Preah Vihear Hindu temple, Ta Prohm - the "Tomb Raider" Temple, and the floating villages of Tonle Sap Lake. Just to name a few.
There are also plenty of adventure activities throughout the country, from adventure racing and camping, to canoeing, canyoning and caving; fishing and hiking, to kayaking and mountaineering.
While visiting Cambodia, you’ll find a range of accommodation styles to suit all kinds of budgets and holiday-types, whether you’re travelling on your own, on a tour, or with your family. From the top class hotels to budget share rooms, there is something guaranteed to suit your personal needs.
As with most countries in Asia, when you’re planning your trip to Cambodia, you’ll want to check the weather. While the country is generally warm all year round, there are still four distinct seasons. Between November and February is cool and dry, and this is generally peak season. From March to May is hot and dry, hot and wet between June and August, and cool and wet from September to early November. While the wet season is generally avoided by tourists, you’ll find benefits of going then include less crowds and more lush environments.
Getting to Cambodia is easy with two international airports: Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH) and Siem Reap (REP). From Australia, you’ll find the best flights if you travel via other Asian destinations like Singapore and Bangkok. You will be required to have a valid visa to enter the country.
